Skiing
Down hill skiing in the Monts Jura has unfortunately
been hit by the global warming phenomenon and
can no longer guarantee the consistent levels
of snow required to sustain the resort throughout
winter, however if last winter is anything to
go by, then things may not be as bad as they sound.
With residents on the Col de la Faucille being
snowed in during May in 2004, the snow is still
falling on the Jura by the tonne. There are excellent
facilities for learning snow-boarding,
skiing, snow-blading
or cross country skiing throughout
the Monts Jura resorts of Lelex-Crozet, Mijoux-La
Faucille giving a total of 35 pistes, and La Vattay’s
80km of Nordic ski-trails.
The slopes apart from weekends in peak season
are surprisingly quiet, with short queues on the
many lifts and in the numerous cafes. The views
from the top of the Jura over the Geneva basin
onto the Alps are quite spectacular.
