Water Based Activities
Apart from Lake Geneva, all the lakes in the Pays
de Gex are man made. Fishing permits can be obtained
from most tourist
offices.
If you want a little taste of the country and
are a keen airplane watcher then head to Colovrex
pond in Ferney Voltaire, where you can sit by
the lake and observe the planes landing directly
in front of you at the busy Geneva International
Airport.
Cessy lake has been recently
constructed but looks so natural in its surroundings
you would never know. It has plenty of secluded
picnic areas, plenty of parking and a children’s
playground.
Divonne Lake is the largest
of all the Pays de Gex lakes. It takes a good
40 minutes to walk around the circumference and
is also a Mecca for skaters and cyclists. There
is a private beach with entrance fees payable
and is the only area permitted for swimming. Divonne
Lake has facilities for learning windsurfing and
sailing but is also well known for its impressive
lakeside concerts and firework displays.
Crozet water-skiing lake. Unfortunately
for would be strollers or picnic-ers this lake
is exclusively for the use of water skiers, but
as a water-skier you have the lake all to yourself
and obstacle courses can be set up for you if
you wish to hone your skills or private tuition
is available for all levels.
